A recent survey identified some stressors behind sleepless nights:

  • Election day (election night fatigue is real)
  • Financial concerns/job security
  • Global conflict
  • AI and emerging technology

Dr. Andrew Spector, sleep medicine physician and spokesperson for the AASM, says, “Worries surrounding the election and other major global issues can trigger a cycle of anxiety and sleeplessness, which takes a serious toll on mental and physical health. The world is stressful enough without adding the strain of sleepless nights.”

Here are some tips for better sleep:

  • Cut down on social media when heading to bed
  • Say no to late-night drinks, especially alcohol or caffeinated beverages
  • Embrace an active mind and don’t focus on clearing your mind
  • Make time for yourself by engaging in a relaxing activity before bedtime
