A recent survey identified some stressors behind sleepless nights:
- Election day (election night fatigue is real)
- Financial concerns/job security
- Global conflict
- AI and emerging technology
Dr. Andrew Spector, sleep medicine physician and spokesperson for the AASM, says, “Worries surrounding the election and other major global issues can trigger a cycle of anxiety and sleeplessness, which takes a serious toll on mental and physical health. The world is stressful enough without adding the strain of sleepless nights.”
Here are some tips for better sleep:
- Cut down on social media when heading to bed
- Say no to late-night drinks, especially alcohol or caffeinated beverages
- Embrace an active mind and don’t focus on clearing your mind
- Make time for yourself by engaging in a relaxing activity before bedtime
